Top lights are flashing.. Have taken it in and out of 2h/4h many times to try to get it to reset. It engages in 4wd and the lights stop flashing. but when I let off the gas and try to disengage the lights keep flashing..I can feel the difference between the two so I can tell when 4WD is engaged. Any help here? I tried the search function but to no avail. My son drives this and I want to make sure all is well.. This is on my 93'....
Thanks. B2

Put it in neutral on an uphill grade. Let it roll backwards unbraked while you blip the throttle (for better vacuum) and weave the front wheels side to side. That always releases mine on the 95SR. Never have released while going forward...

Sounds like your Xfer case is coming out of 4-wheel drive but your hubs aren't unlocking. This happens especially if the 4x4 isn't used very often. Mine seem to unlock better when I'm moving faster - how fast were you going when you put the lever to 2H?
When mine won't unlock going forwards I just put it in reverse and back up for about 10 ft. This has always worked for me, but the way fasteddy describes might work even better, so I'd try both ways.
If that doesn't do it then you probably have an electrical or vacuum issue <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />, so hope that backing up does the trick.

Seconded on the suggestion to drive in reverse for a distance of 5-50 feet or until the lights stop flashing.
This used to happen to me occasionally and everytime I put in reverse and backed up the flashing would go away.

If it's just a bulb, then it's behind the IP. Parts stores and Radio Shack should have them. Dunno if they have them in Georgia, though.
Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

I dont know much about the newer stuff....maybe a sensor loose. If you are in a hurry to find the answer, then you can start a new thread. -good luck

your front axle is not 'disconnecting' from your wheels. there is a free-wheeling clutch bolted onto the passenger side of the front diff. there are 2 wires going to a sensor within this clutch. you need to trouble shoot the 2 solenoid valves along with the vacuum system that operate this free wheeling clutch. more times than not, the solenoid valves stick open or closed or go bad altogether over time. the solenoid valves are mounted on the inside of the engine bay on the passenger side front fender just under the air intake from air box to throttle body. one is marked with a yellow dot and the other with a blue dot.
