Getting the Wheeling Fever

Hey all,
I picked up this 86 that had been sitting for 3 years really cheap! However, the previous owner let her kids drive it and they let it run out of oil! I changed all the fluids, fresh gas and got lots of white smoke out the exhaust so I am figuring that I need to at least replace the head gasket and while I have it off replace the head as well.
I am having trouble getting the EGR crossover tube to budge and have tried to find a new one in case I have to cut this one off. This search has been futile to say the least!
Any suggestions? Thanks,Mark

Have you unbolted the bracket from the back of the head? Can you get it disconnected from the manifolds, and are just having troubles getting it completely removed?

No I haven't called them but I certainly will Monday! I got the manifold itself loose but the EGR fitting seems welded in place! I sprayed a lot of breakfree on it and used a set of vice grips but to no avail!

Talk to Merlin when you call if you can. He knows his stuff... I've been hit or miss with one of the other guys. Oh, and tell him you learned about them through 4x4wire.

Moving this from PM back to the associated thread where it belongs. More people viewing a question = more chance of getting an answer: I called St Charles Isuzu and that tube for the 86 2.3l has been discontinued. Any suggeestions for getting this bugger off the exhaust manifold so I can get this head off? Or...do I need to take the head off with the intake and exhaust connected to it with the EGR and then try to get it off after everything is out of the engine compartment?

Heat with an oxy-acetylene torch (propane will not cut it -- have a shop do it if necessary) until it is cherry red, and melt some paraffin into the interface between the fitting and the manifold.
You can also cut the tube, and just plan on replacing the tube -- the 'magic' is in the fittings, not the tube, per se. You can replace the tube itself with large-diameter steel tubing (summit should have fuel line, or the like) or even copper tubing (less vibration-resistant).
Once you have the tube cut, you can use a tight-fitting socket (hammer a 6-sided socket on, if you have already buggered up the fitting) and an impact gun.

Thanks Randii! Now that I know I can just replace the tube I can rock and roll with it!

Don't use copper!!
It will work harden from the vibrations and the heat will make it brittle. Use steel.
