Trailing arms in the way -- options?

My trailing arms were hit several times on my last trip and are very obviously in the way (more so than the gas tank). As I understand it they are a result of the suspension lift by the truck's previous owner. But this can't be the standard. I've searched for "curved trailing arms", "angled trailing arms" and more with not much luck. Can you please give me some suggestions on where to look and what my options are? Many thanks. Joanna

I'm not familiar with the early '90's 4Runners aftermarket lift kits, but that frame mount for your trailing arms definitely looks aftermarket. For me the stock frame mount of the trailing arms is annoying to get caught on rock ledges even without that crazy looking downward extension that's just asking for rocks to hang you up. The stock mount is in the bolt hole that's above the aftermarket mount's hole.
Does anyone know what brand of lift kit that is from?
You'll need to get different aftermarket swaybar endlinks since those ridiculously long ones are obviously aftermarket or homemade and seem to be the primary reason why they had to extend the link mount lower. You definitely don't need the swaybar horizontal in order for it to flex properly so I'm baffled why anyone would do that. That weird mount also made your pinion angle slightly worse. Is there a problem with rubbing or contact from the rear axle or rear tires that would necessitate moving the axle back a tad?

I've received my new lower control arms from AllPro! They look strong and, yes, they are the perfect length for the new diagonal fit. We installed the first one this afternoon. As you can see the break line is tight and the sway bar endlink rubs on the bar. Interestingly enough while we were down there I discovered that at some point I broke my rear sway bar in half. (This happen often? I thought the bushings looked fine!?) It must have been on the Rubicon, and since I never even noticed I'm considering removing it so it won't be in the way. ![[Linked Image]](http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u296/Blossom2468/4Runner/57634ee8.jpg)

The next thing to break is the mounts for the arms and the panhard. They are not up to the stress that is put on them from rockcrawling. Remember if you remove the sway bar, it is not going to handle as well. Some have fixed the problem with the links by cutting all that stuff out and installing leaf springs in the rear. Here is a write up on installing leafs in the rear: http://toyota.off-road.com/toyota/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=300933

Looks like your hang up problems are over. I've been running without sway bars for several years now, just be aware that you'll need more reaction time when something stupid happens in front of you on the highway.

J- Here's another option for ya; this would be something I'd do for a rock crawler. Oops, do you or any of the other guys have these? http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/reviews/disconnects/There's another set of swayaways that are reviewed there too, your FYI.

I've looked for RockStomper disconnects before but didn't see them on their website, figured they stopped selling them. Will research some more.

I've looked for RockStomper disconnects before but didn't see them on their website, figured they stopped selling them. Rockstomper disconnects are very noisy due to clicking heim joints and those pins. And that's before the heims wear and get noisier. Several years ago I endured the annoying noise of the Rockstomper disconnects and actually used them for quite a while until I blew them to pieces, but there are definitely much better solutions out there now.
