have a complete rebuilt engine and am confused about the exhaust? I have piping that is 1.5" all the way back. I have a new magnaflow cat and a flowmaster 44 on its way. I believe my pipes are too small? Other posts are saying to run 2" manifold to muffler and 2.25" muffler out. The engine is stock with stock manifolds. I am reluctant to return the new pipes. If I did where do I go to get the 2" and 2.25" and how much $ are we talking. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I KEPT THE 1.5" PIPES?

I run 2.25", Downey Header, Car Sound Free Flowing Cat, and a Straight Tube Style Magnaflow muffler.

If I had to do it again I might go back to 2"...Just for more compression braking and the fact that it seems to run rich all the time no matter how I tune it.

Runs great though...I have not much low end like Yodta said..But when I hit about 3200 RPM it comes to life up to 6000rpm.

Gears helped my low RPM issue and brought me back to be able to have low end...That's an expensive mod just to compensate for an exhaust that was punched out too big though.

The Magnaflow is about 3-4yrs old and is getting pretty loud now. They don't like that up north in New England...Nobody in Virginia ever bothered me with it though.

2" to muffler, 2 1/2" out is one of the absolute best improvements that can be made for the 22RE. The engine breaths soooo much better. What can happen if you leave the stock pipes? Your engine will be working harder trying overcome the smaller pipe to expel the exhaust gasses, wasting precious horsepower. You can find both 2 and 2 1/2 @ any qualified exhaust shop.

Good luck!
