huh? that's not really what all this was about. most of this was about swapping the tracker tranny in and running adapters for different transfer cases, which is precisely what i'm gonna start on next month.

I realize that, but I'm hoping that something might be found for a stock setup for us with manual trannys. Maybe just wishful thinking.
Anyway, haven't heard how the project is progressing, wanted to know if it died or what. Glad to hear that your trying something. Keep us posted.

i was still thinking, at some point, about maybe still getting custom gears cut, but it will be a long way away and it will have to be sorta like a group-buy situation, i think. it will be expensive, but right now, it's hard to tell how expensive, because there's such a huge difference in price quotes i have gotten from machine shops, not to mention, i haven't exhausted my sources (my brother works at a machine shop, but i don't know if this is something he's able or willing to do).

gonna check into it to make sure. (image above also shows their "lefty" conversion to run an older model gear driven toy t-case with a driver's side front output).

now if we could just get something along those lines for the manual or even a 2wd sporty transmission we would all be laughing!

just thinking out loud here...

so currently the idea being tossed around only supports the autos? the difference between the zuk/volvo auto's and the kia is the rear end of the tranny were the transfer case would bolt up, correct?

what all would be required to make an adapter such as the one above to work with the kia transmissions? does there have to be some sort of a seal there between the transfer case and the transmission? some sort of new output shaft? bearings? i am just trying to figure out how all this works. i still would like to keep the 5spd as much as possible.

NO, ACTUALLY, THE ISSUE ISN'T EVEN WITH THE ADAPTER ON THE REAR OF THE TRANNY BECAUSE THAT IS REMOVABLE AND ANYTHING THAT MATCHES THE BOLT PATTERN, WHICH IS ALL THE TOY, TRACKER, VOLVO, AND MANY OTHER MAKES USING THIS TRANNY, WILL BOLT RIGHT UP. THE ISSUE IS WITH THE OUTPUT SHAFT IN THE KIA Tranny BEING 25 SPLINE AND ALL OTHER VERSIONS, THAT I KNOW OF, BEING 21 AND 23 SPLINE WITH SLIGHTLY LARGER DIAMETERS. THAT IS THE REASON WHY THE TRANNIES NEED TO BE SWAPPED IN ORDER TO MAKE THIS WORK.

AS FAR AS I CAN THINK, THERE IS NO OPTIONS FOR LOWER GEARING FOR THOSE WITH MANUALS, AT LEAST NOT FOR MARRIED DRIVE-LINE LOWER GEARING. THERE IS ALWAYS THE POSSIBILITY OF USING THE 2WD TRANNY TAILHOUSING AND A DIVORCED T-CASE OF JUST ABOUT ANY MAKE OR MODEL. EVEN TOYOTA, SINCE THERE ARE A FEW DIVORCE FRONT INPUT FLANGES AVAILABLE.

MAYBE SOMEONE WITH A MANUAL TRANNY CAN DO SOME RESEARCH TO FIND OUT WHAT, IF ANY OTHER MODEL VEHICLES RAN THE SAME TRANNY, IF THEY WERE 4X4, ETC......?

if i only did not need my truck for a while i would rip the back of the transmission out.

sorry dave, just wanted to clarify something here, when you say the out put shaft of the t-case, do you mean the output of the transmission that goes to the transfer case is 25 spline?

i think it may be time to rip apart my spare transfer case as well, so i can figure out some more of that stuff as well. maybe i might be able to figure out some sort of doubler at least. did you have any ideas floating around still on this idea dave?

i guess we would still be stuck with dual chain drives though, but would have 2 and 4:1 at least!
