does anyone here know what transmission exactly is uesd in the manual sportages, i heard getrag mentioned a few times, but need a specific number.

sorry i am useless when it comes to finding this stuff. i just skimmed this entire post and came up empty.

I am in talks with a guy up here at the moment about doing something for us manual guys, he just needs to know what transmission we use.

that's actually the info i was looking for, the best i got was that maybe it is:

R15MXD

but i cannot gaurantee that even remotely. someone said same as Jeep, i was thinking AX5, but there is no mention of it ever being used in a Sportage. maybe one of the Peugot trannies, but looked for cross-refs and got nada. zip.

still looking, though.

that's not specific enough.

i guess we could try e-mailing Getrag, but who knows what they'd tell us.

either way, the MT is gonna have the same output shaft problem the auto has, 25 spline and 1.125" diameter doesn't match anything. so, let's look for MT's with bellhousings that match the bolt pattern, like one from a Mazda pick-up, up to '93 B2000's and 2200's.

The FSM doesn't help either. All it states is that it's a Getrag gearbox.

1998 Sportage - Gone.
2004 Honda Civic Coupe.
2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara - She got it.

Yeah that's the same one I found as I was searching over the weekend. I did see on Getrag's website that they had a developement partnership with Ford. Also got a a part number from a Korean parts web site. but no cross references ever found. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

talked to both of the local dealerships here today, all the one could tell me was that it is a toyota sourced transmission, much like the engine is mazda sourced.

the other dealership did some searching around for me, and so far has come up empty handed. my mechanic buddy there, said he was sure that the 5spd was also a aisin transmission and not getrag.
