I bet you could use more than one switch. But I would ask the question why? Sounds like you have a SPDT switch when you need a DPDT switch. I don't know if you can convert it to 3 wire, but I doubt it. I imagine the winch companies switched to 5 wire for a reason. If you don't want to cannibilize your remote, you could probably find a switch that would work locally or order it online. I found one at the local hardware store, most electrical supplies would probably have them. Radio Shack might have one but I'd go with metal toggle over plastic only because of durability. Bouncing around holding a thin piece of plastic is asking for it to break.

The cable idea for the clutch is awesome. I'm gonna see what I can come up with for mine.
