We have Karmann Vortex type MAF's on our vehicles. THe "wire" you are seeing is just the Intake Air Sensor. Cleaning it may give a more accurate reading.
Our MAF's send a sound wave through the center that is picked up by a sensor ( similar to sonar) It reads the number of "Eddies" in your air stream.

Lloyd, How high was your cold idle speed? My truck has a cold idle speed of about 1,800 rpm. It's a smooth progression over a time period of 1-2 minutes (depending on ambient air temp)down to warm idle speed of 700 +/- rpm. Replaced the ISC and that did not change anything. Thanks, Jim '89 two door v6 auto

I was aware of the CNC but wanted to make sure the six dollar fix wanst a $60-$420 mistake. Is this what Ironman was talkinf about? Lloyd, How high was your cold idle speed? That is exactly what mine does. I dont like it either. I am not going to mess with the ISC until I find a replacement, and have it in my hand... again, better safe than sorry.
