Edmunds lists the Diamante ES sedans and wagon between '92-'95 as identical HP/TQ specs - 175HP @ 5500/185TQ @ 3000 - if they're correct, the cams are the same in the wagon: web pageFrank

All this Diamante talk has made me seriously consider buying one to use as a Daily driver <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> they can be had dirt cheap..Anyways I've seen a few engine apllication charts that list the diamante engine, and have an "except wagon" notation..I wonder why

....I've seen a few engine apllication charts that list the diamante engine, and have an "except wagon" notation..I wonder why That's exactly my question. I plan to visit Augusta Mitsubishi in the morning to look through the FSM archives and hope to find the answer to that question. I'm betting that the cams are the same 262* duration as the sedans. If so - and I find no major differences in the block - I'll buy the junk yard's $350 '93 wagon engine on the way home.... and build a new blower engine on that block. Frank

If doing that, be sure of 8.9:1 & might want to find the turbo oil squirters just for the heck of it....

AFAIK, all of the SOHC 12v Diamante engines were 10:1. Hopefully the difference is only piston crown and/or head thickness.... and not deck height. Piston part numbers are not the same as the 8.9:1 engines.

After a long conversation with the shop manager, I was told that the only difference he knew between the Diamante SOHC station wagon and sedan engine is the shape of the oil pan. IIRC, the station wagon pan has a squarer shape. That makes no difference for my purpose, since the car oil pans have the sump on the front of the engine - unlike the trucks which have the sump at the rear.... so the Montero pan and oil pickup tube will have to be swapped over anyway. The Diamante block may have to be drilled/tapped to allow for the Montero/Raider oil pickup tube braces.
I did find a slight difference between valve spring specs for the SOHC 12v Diamante compared to the Montero/Raider.... the difference is slight - may not be enough of a difference to matter, but it's easy enough to use the SOHC Diamante heads complete with springs - since there is no other difference except the cams and valve springs.
I also found a head gasket change between the '93/'94 Diamante SOHC model year - don't know what change was made unless an MLS gasket was used.
Oil squirter locations are cast into the 3000GT/Stealth turbo blocks only - so I'll have to do some more looking to see if they can be incorporated into the N/A blocks.
I was late returning, but stopped long enough at the junkyard to buy the Diamante wagon engine - it'll be pulled tomorrow.

My Stealth engine had the oil tube brace holes drilled & tapped already... Hope yours does, too...

Turbo engines fail quite regularly ( due to non mechanical people owning them ). Call around to salvage yards to ask for their cores. Also, any of the "Tuner" crowd should aim you in the right direction.
I am now out of the salvage industry, but when you go to the salvage yard to pick up your engine, ask them to do a "Locate" on their puters.
Here's an inside infobit. BLACKHORSE 0123456789 That's how they are pricing with another yard when on the phone. B=0 L=1 & so-on. If you talk to them in that parlance, they may treat you better. Frank, you are paying $350, right? It is termed CHB to them. Y'all can always claim an uncle owned a yard out of state & you used to help out when you were a kid... Of course to back it up, Google a yard in the area that you grew up & claim that was the one you used to "Pull cores" (AC compressors, alternators & hte sort... Then mention how difficult Fords were.... They will identify with your pain (tm Bill Clinton) Maybe that a Jaguar took all the tools you had to drop the engine out the bottom.
Also, as per Jags.... Alot of them had water to fluid heat exchangers. Many of them can be used to further cool oil, trans fluid, diff fluid, intercool turbos with a remote resivoir $ a radiator placed where you want.
As to intercooling, use A/C system with Caravan "Dual circut" compressor ( blots in, most likely a change of clutch & pulley should line up) with a seperate orifice/valve to cool liquid to intercool & then also have AC in vehicle....
Oh well... Enough blabing....
