W/ no vacuum on the FPR, you get maximum fuel pressure all the time, instead of having it lowered at idle. Could be you have marginally low fuel pressure (a pressure gauge would confirm that) or the injectors are clogged up and need the extra pressure to flow enough fuel (a good cleaning would fix that).

Best/easiest way to check fuel pressure??? pull line at cold injector? Could very well be injectors as well since they've been running for >21 years untouched other than gas tank fuel injector cleaner now and then. Tonight, before heading home from work, I'm going to remove the vauum line to the FPR and plug it just to see how well it runs under driving conditions...

well i gota chance to check my fuel pressure, 43psi at idle and when i blip the throttle it would shoot up to 48psi, when i would hold up the rpm's and let throttle plate shut for high vacuum it would drop as low as 30 but go right to 43 when idle droped.
so i hope to check out ignition in next day or so. is anyone else had any other any luck checking that out?

I've been reading this thread and no mention of verifying the timing off idle and at part throttle.
Timing should advance when throttle is opened and hold (not jump around).

Did you do any splicing of the wire harness?

anyway just throwing a bone...
good luck

I would Also check all of the Ground Connections, Especially the one that attaches to the Intake maniflold. If I Recall, that one grounds the injectors to make them fire. Also make sure your TPS is working and is "set" right. If you put a timming light on it and see where it is at idel, then give it alittle bit of gas it should instantly advace. When my TPS wasn't set right it the Timming would retard for a split second, then advance. I would also make sure that all of the EGR components do not have any exhaust leaks.

I'm just trying to come up with stuff that hasn't been mentioned that might help, or lead somewhere <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

Good luck,

I did verify timing with jumper in place. Set it at 8 degrees BTC. This is the recommendation for the cam in place. Now, I didn't check it without the jumper in place to see if it advances quickly off of idle (partial throttle). I can try this test.

i have the base timing set at 8 degrees, and it is advancing as soon as throttle is snapped.
I have 3 grounds one on head, one on block, and one on the intake.

I also notice that is is really only happening in a certian rpm range 2200-2900, thats about were i am when i really can feel it. It seems over 3000 i can not seem to feel it.

I am wondering if the cam i choose has anything to do with this, the cruising range for it is supposed to be 3000-3600.

3 grounds for me as well. Two are combined on the intake manifold grounded at the connection that holds the brace (black bar) and then one on the Block of the engine. I'll ohm them out as well. There is one other thing I stumbled across in the Toyota manual and that's the fuel cut-off signal that occurs when letting off of the gas the ECU will shut off fuel to the injectors @ 1500rpm. Any chance this might be an issue?? Normal driving you'll never know it's there (under load or cruising down the freeway at 70mph... One of these days.... between all of our heads put together.... this WILL get resolved.... I hope!
