I have a 83 cj-8 with the 258. I was getting off the interstate and it backfired and died. It will not start now. I replaced the timing chain. I replaced the coil, cap, rotor, pick-up coil, and had the ignition module checked.(it works) I checked the spark plug leads and no spark. Any ideas?

None of the above can work without electricity! Got any? The ignition module (spark Box) is only bout 20 bucks.. I didn't know there was a test for them. Golly sounds like you started throwing parts at a problem that should have been better diagnosed first. Make sure all the wiring is correct and check the COIL wire for spark. There are a LOT more sparks there and it is easier to see the spark. Big JIm

You are most likely right about throwing parts at the problem. I do not have power to my gauges. Is that a result of the ignition module?

NO! That would be akey--ignition problem not sending 12v to the ignition also. Big Jim

My Cj7 85 did the same thing. I blew a fuse did you check them. It was a shorted wire that cause the fuse to blow.
