I was getting off the interstate and it backfired and died. It will not start now. I replaced the timing chain. I replaced the coil, cap, rotor, pick-up coil, and had the ignition module checked.(it works) I checked the spark plug leads and no spark. Any ideas? The ignition module (spark Box) is only bout 20 bucks.. I didn't know there was a test for them. Golly sounds like you started throwing parts at a problem that should have been better diagnosed first. Make sure all the wiring is correct and check the COIL wire for spark. There are a LOT more sparks there and it is easier to see the spark. That would be akey--ignition problem not sending 12v to the ignition also. It was a shorted wire that cause the fuse to blow. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I have expeirenced the same problem with an 85.The wiring harness on the fender rubbed through and burned a fuesible link I think by 83 Amc was using a fusible link inline to the coil or ignition box, dont remember which.
