Check all your grounds. I had trouble with my 92' Rodeo's trans going into limp mode. Turns out part of the TCM grounded at the oil sending unit. Also someone prior to my buying it had left off the ground wire at the back of the intake manifold. When I bought it I was told it needed a torque converter. Fixing the grounds cured my problems.
