Ok this is a rant but can someone please tell me what "Made in USA, assembled in Mexico" means?

Wife just thinks I'm just bieng stubborn but all I wanted was some new t shirts and boxers that god forbid were made domestically.
I'm not trying to wave a big flag and say every single product I buy will be US made, simply impossible. Just wanted some damn shorts.

Out of 6 stores we visted the closet thing I could find was "Made in USA, assembled in Mexico".
Last line in the smallest font humans could possibly read under a large 2" USA flag.

I even started looking at clothing in the big high end stores lik REI and Nordstoms who tout themselves "local" , "green" and use lots of buzzwords claiming thier corporation is earth fiendly, enviromentally responsible and all that BS.

Yep, not a single US made product in sight. Even asked the sales manager to point me toward the US made section.

"Uhhh, the what??" Yeah...Closest thing he could find was a $600 Arcteryx jacket from Canada.

The textiles were woven in America, and the final product itself is made in Mexico?

That'd be my guess, American-produced fabric, maybe even using American-grown cotton, but with the end product stitched together in Mexico.

So, how many of our trail rigs were actually assembled in the USA?

You must have a different definition of "quality".

this is why i don't buy american cars, and if it was made in mexico then warehoused in the US for a certain amount of time legally it was made in USA, thats the reason
"made in USA" can be cast into a part made in mexico with a "hencho en mexico". If i wanted an american car i'd buy a Toyota or Nissan.

Actually quite common. I think they can avoid large import duties if the final assembly is in the USA.
