Hey all, can you please help me figure out why my brake lights only work when I push the bulbs into their sockets in the UNLOCKED position (kinda like backwards)? When I fit the bulbs in their sockets the right way and lock them down, the bulbs will not light up. Both sides of the truck are similarly afflicted. I keep thinkin' there's a simple reason, but I can't figure out what the reason is! All help is much appreciated-- I gotta have the brake lights! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Do the bulbs have the 2 conductors on the bottom? (for 2 elements). I know it sounds crazy, but I had a neighbor that ........

Inspect the sockets, perhaps one of more of the contacts have been bent. I have had good luck on other vehicles in cleaning up and retensioning contacts in sockets, once you find out why they are not working right. I also use a little bulb or contact grease on the contacts to ensure a good contact.

Definitely a good suggestion. Is it possible for the electricity to flow backwards? That is the only thing I can think of to make the lights work when pugged in backwards to the socket... Heck I would keep them there if they would lock-- but they won't lock in that way. If a backwards flow is possible, is there a quick'n'ez way to fix it?

An incandescent bulb will work "backwards", although you might find the two filaments reversed, like the parking light is bright and the brake light is dim. Might also try another brand of bulb, it might fit better (should be an 1157 type in most cases) or even try an LED bulb. They need a lot less current so may work with a not so good connection.

Thank you, Roger! I went out and bought another brand of bulb and the new ones work. $2.15 well spent based on your solid recomendation. Thank you again.
