I've removed the inline fuel pump from my 4BD1T and am now trying to reinstall it. I've got the crank pulley mark lined up with "T" which I presume is TDC. I've removed the window on the timing gear cover so I can see the pointer which should line up with the mark on the fuel pump drive gear.
But there exist 2 orientations of TDC. One with cyl #1 on compression, one with cyl #1 finishing exhaust. I'm betting on #1 at compression being the alignment I want. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
I find the fuel pump gear lines up about 1/2 a tooth out. Is this a concern? I'm setting it to the advance side. Is there any other way to confirm TDC on the crankshaft pulley hasn't shifted (say using the dowel on the crankshaft?
Pulling the timing cover is the sure way, but it's a hassle I'd rather avoid.
