The more opitional and powerful Monteros started in 94 and on. I like the Gen II and II.5 Monteros all the way til 2000. After that the Gen III started. I dont mind the driving the Gen III, just prefer the earlier models. I would stick with an SR if you get it between 94-97, but in 97, they changed the motors (supposibly better) then from 98- 2000, they kept that same motor, but changed some of the appearence some (which we call the Gen II.5) I'd say go for the Gen II.5, cause if you are going to upgrade it, you are going to change the gears out anyways, but some still love the 94SR- 97SR. Both have pros and cons, but I would def stick between a 94- 2000, under 100K on the clock if you can find it would be awesome too, better under 70k so you can have the extra insurance of knowing the major service can be done, after 80k, its hard to know if the pervious owner did the service or not, ya know?

I'm sure others will chime in, you made a good choice, I love Discos (my sis has one) but there are lil problems here and there, so do Monteros, but they are so much easier to work on. Oh, and her back door hinge broke last week! The Montero hinges are so much beefier, almost twice the size! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
