I liked my aussie very much.or did untill some guy smashed my axle housing.I hope its ok it still worked after taking one heck of a lick to the side it just made a little more noise than it used to.easy to install cheaqp to buy and the parts are well made.the only down side is it took about 6 weeks to get it,but it was worth it.I dont think I would like it in my front dif. Ive heard the lockers create some problems in snow and ice,but Im not sure what it was about.I was well pleased with my aussie and if it is still useable it is one good part.Ill let you know in about a week.

aussie or detroit. if you learn how the locker handles you wont have any issues with handling, tire wear may increase slightly but thats a small price to pay. im ordering an aussie for my front in a week or 2 ive got a detroit rear now and on the road i rarely notice its there unless i stomp the gas in turns or engine brake in turns . a locer will lock only when power is applied so its best to coast through turns as much as possible.

I've actually found that if I coast through corners the truck bucks really hard but if I use a steady light throttle it's smooth as butter...

The only time I coast is when I'm making right angle turns like in a parking lot.

Swap the ARB to the rear and put the auto-locker up front. That's what I've run for quite a while and I like it.

I have a lock-right in my D44 up front and its held up great for 6+ years with 35's and 37's.

personally i would prefer the selectable locker up front and the full locker in the rear but the arb out back is the best way to save your tires with it still having a locker. i dont drive it on the road enough to worry about the tires.

ovrrdrive, your lock rite must be different than my detroit, it likes to coast and does not bind at all but if i apply power or downshift and let the clutch out it will grab both tires ... er er er er <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

Ah but the magic of manual hubs is that when you're on the street, the hubs are unlocked and the differential is completely inert. You could weld that sucker and it wouldn't affect regular street driving. Only problem comes up if you live in a snowy area and need 4wd to get to work... then the front locker can be a problem.

With 200+ Billion electrical parts, the world most complicated machine is inside your own skull.

Question Reality.

no doubt. i live where theres no snow and i prefer the rear to be locked, just my thing. snow... then arb in the rear would be the only option as far as a locker and like you said just unlock the hubs but 4wd would be a little woooooozy with it full time locked up front.

Stay away from the EZ locker. I had two and neither one worked right. I did get my money back for them but it is still a major pain to take everything apart and put in another one just to find out it also was bad. I just bit the bullet and bought a Detroit locker. Been very happy with it.
