Getting the Wheeling Fever
Well, I had a few posts in relation to fuel pump r&r on 92 Montero/Pajero 3L.
The fuel pump was replaced and still no go. My mechanic took a further look, and there is no spark, no power to injectors, no current going to fuel pump. He says it could by the p/up coil on the distributor, or ECU.
Before the car died (turns fine but no fire), it was making a clicking sound from the passenger glove box area.
I understand the ECU is located there. I am fearing the worst - ECU blew.
My mechanic also says the motor is the same as Dodge Caravans, etc. Do they share the same ECU?
Frustrating to have a car in great condition, but it won't do the main thing - drive!
Thanks for any info guys!!

Ken

Should be able to get a new ECU around $300 and remanned or used are even cheaper. I know that hurts in the wallet, but it is well worth it if the rest of your car is nice! Hopefully you find it is the coil or something else cheaper <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Good luck!

Bad ecu. Probably leaking capacitors, and may be repairable if not damaged too bad. I think several on here have used ecu rebuilding services.

Thanks guys, once again really appreciate your help!
I'll source a good ECU (trying not to go through the dealership, but I guess when you have to, you have to).
I'll post results so someone else with a similiar issue can look through this thread and be of help.

This place will rebuild yours for $300. If you search around you may find a cheaper alternative. The dealer will charge you about 4 times as much for a replacement.

Thanks once again guys.
Well, I did some researching and it seems the ecu that I have on my Pajero is a different number from NA Monteros.
Mine is MD162164, E2T37471, 1Y13 M.
Looks like I have to source from Sonyland!!
...Or, would it be the part # is different, but in fact the ECU itself is the same as Montero's?
Wishful thinking probably...

It would help if you would post your location and some facts about your vehicle. If your not in the USA your vehicle may be a 1991 here.

I'd find still ship it over and have a US firm see if they can part match the leaky capacitors. Not all that hard to do. Take the cover off the ecu and you should see the damage, leaks from can shaped components on wire legs above the board that have caused erosion/corrosion underneath. If it's not too bad (and a US firm may be able to tell from a good closeup image), the caps can be changed by anybody who can do basic electronic soldering work.
