I hope this is not to offtopic, but you have all helped me so much already and like i've said in the past, i'm really loving my little truck... anyways

There is a few rust spots on the bed, some just surface rust and some are holes rusted threw, nothing to bad, but a few of the spots are right on the edge of no return lol So my question is, since i do have a good idea about how fixing them, but as far as what supplies i need, i could use your input. Like what should i use for a background for the bigger holes? mesh? And what type of bondo, primer works best. If anyone has a link for a step-by-step DIY rust holes would be awsome. The correct way to do it is to cut it out and then weld in patch panels. You put a big blob of body filler in there, backed or not it will crack out. Body filler should be no more then an eighth inch thick and that is stretching it.

oops is right no doubt,but if you cant or wont put that much time in it spray foam in a can topped off with bondo covers the holes for awhile.I have used the foam (great stuff ) to fill holes that are constantly getting full of mud.The foam keeps the mud out.I dont know yet if the foam makes the rust any better or worse,but I know it keeps water and mud out.I would not do this to a nice truck but it does the job on a beater

After looking at it in more detail, i think my best bet is to just find a different bed in better conditon and swap it. What years will fit mine? I have a 91 and are they a pain to get off? Thanks

theres a guy on here that makes some real nice fiberglass beds,fenders etc...I dont know his name .search fiberglass parts

I replaced the box sides of my 91 toy 4x4 and helped a pal replace his on an 86 toy 4x4. I got my box sides from cory at toyotafiberglass.com - these box sides fit really well and the hardest part is taking off the old sides. If you have a spot weld cutter and drill out the spot welds each side took me about 2-3 hours. When the sides are off grind with a flapper disk and then cut and grind the pannels to fit. I glued mine on and I'm very happy with it. I'd post a pic but I don't know how.
