Getting the Wheeling Fever
I was wondering if anyone try's swapping out the AFM for a mass airflow sensor? I havn't seen it on here, but if its common then sorry for being repetitive. I know on other cars and trucks people do it, and it helps quite a bit. Just curious? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool
Once upon a time, I tried swapping out the AFM for a MAP sensor, and I encountered a number of significant issues. The biggest problem is that the older (1984-88) 22RE/RTE motors, like mine, use a non-standard AFM output voltage of 2.5V to ~9V, while most "modern" systems use a more standard 0V-5V range.

If you want to go this route, talk to Tim Rodda at Toyotaperformance.com. He's worked with Eric at SplitSecond and has a version of their AFM elimination kit that is specially modified to work with the 22RE ECU. Of course, for significantly less money you can purchase a MegaSquirt system, which is much more flexible and fully programmable.

Also, it's worth noting that this is a big can of worms, so be sure you know what you're getting into before you take the plunge.
