is the trans fluid in the fj's dex iii or dex vi or maybe even something else? owners manual just gives some toyota part number that doesn't mean sh*& if you don't call the dealer. the new dexron vi has been out in the auto parts stores for a while now. anyone know if toyota recomends this change? gm is recomending this for all of their vehicles that use dex iii in the tranny's. i have done it in my avalanche 2500 and noticed a great shift improvement but i'm not so sure about changing it in my 07 fj yet. i'm still trying to get used to that dam downshifting the fj auto tranny does.

i run the new stuff in my 06 sienna its what i used for refill after the 30K trans service. all new auto-trans seem to shift and down shift alot. apparently they are in a big hurry to get you into a higher gear as quickly as possible in order to lower the rpm's faster to meet epa pollution and mpg requirements, then they have to down shift at the slightest load increase. i thought our trans was messed up....just life as we know it now i guess. i noticed that a friend of mine's new tahoe does the same thing, probably a little less due to the bigger motor but still quite "shifty"

Getting the Wheeling Fever
FJ Auto trans uses World Standard ATF available at the dealer.

*100K maintenance interval - inspection only; ATF-WS Does NOT require any flushing or changing during the life of the vehicle* - per Toyota bulletin <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Process, if desired, is involved, requires scantool for proper temp reading to set to proper level.
