Hi all!
I have a '00 V6 Rodeo with 96k on it. Recently it started stalling at start. It will start ok and then stall right out, sometimes even a second time, and mostly when the engine is warm.
I took it to the dealer for a timing belt change and they also did a fuel system clean-up. No change.
Then, I changed the fuel filter, air fliter, cleaned the MAS, used seafoam in the vavuum connection and gas tank, and then changed the plugs.
The Rodeo runs like a champ now. Except it still stalls after start. Frustrating.
Also running Rotella 15x40 in the crankcase now to clean up the engine a little.
Not sure what to try now, any help would be appreciated.

when mine did this it was due to a cracked intake manifold gasket. If you are the original owner it is covered under the 10yr, 120k warranty. I've had mine replaced twice under warranty (currently 80k on my 2000).

But if it was the manifold gasket wouldn't it be stalling more often? Like at stop lights and such.
The weird thing is, it only does it when the engine is warm. If it sits over night it fires right up in the morning. If I stop at a gas station or grocery store and come out when the engine is still hot it will fire right up.
But, if I stop somewhere for 3 or 4 hours and the engine cools off a little, it will start and stall.
Sounds strange I know, but thats the best way I can explain it.

Second for the cracked IMG.

Make sure your's is good, otherwise you'll be changing parts to no end & still won't fix the problem.

Those symptoms are somewhat similar to what I was experiencing...except it wouldn't start without cranking for 3-5 seconds when warmed up...fired right up when cold.
Turned out to be the fuel pressure reg.
I also agree that it could be the intake gaskets...especially if they're the original equipment.

I am not the original owner and as far as I know the IMG is original.
I've done a little searching here about the IMG problem and it seems that most are reporting a CEL, rough idling, and stalling out on the road. I've not experienced these symptoms......yet. Maybe because it's a very small crack? I don't know.
Is there an easy way to test if the IMG is the problem?

I never had a CEL, just rough idle and occasionally it would stall out.

I would do the fuel regulator test.
While the engine is cold, open the hood and pull the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator. Have a friend or family member turn the key to the on position so you can watch to see if any gas blows out the vacuum hose fitting on the fuel regulator. If it does, replace it.
