You are supposed to check the level when the tranny is between 90-135 degrees F, with the truck running and in Park. Run the tranny through all the gears while holding the brake.

Then on the tranny pan there are two bolts, one low on the pan and one high on the pan. The higher of the two is the check/fill plug.

The truck must be running to check the level. It must also be running when you fill it, if it's low. Fill it till it comes back out on you.
