The rubber bushings are all worn out, even gone on the drivers side. It makes a strange noise over rough bumps. I am using it for a hunting truck. It never goes over 55 MPH. I kind of just idle around my hunting camp. So do I "need" the front and rear sway bars.
I did a search and couldn't find out much. A lot on torsion bars but not much on the need for sway bars.

You don't need it. crank your torsion bars a bit, and take it off.

I take my swaybar off (mine only has a front swaybar) every year after winter and put it back on right before winter. For traveling on rough terrain, removing the swaybar(s) makes the ride a lot more pleasant.

you can take them off, no problem. They help reduce body roll in turns. When the bushings wear out or the bolts come out it can rattle/clunk around when going over bumps. I have mine on and keep the bushings greased and in good condition since I drive on road alot and probably drive it much harder on road than I do off road(since I don't have a v8 sports car, I just have to drive the montero like it is one. lol) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />
