you can take them off, no problem. They help reduce body roll in turns. When the bushings wear out or the bolts come out it can rattle/clunk around when going over bumps.
I have mine on and keep the bushings greased and in good condition since I drive on road alot and probably drive it much harder on road than I do off road(since I don't have a v8 sports car, I just have to drive the montero like it is one. lol) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />
