Hello Everyone!! I have just purchased a 2000 Sportage ( door, 4wd, 5 spd)and am new to the forum. I bought the Kia for a hunting vehicle mainly and hope to have alot of fun with it. I am sure the fuel mileage topic has been wore out on here but I have heard so many varying numbers. I have heard people getting 19-20 and others getting 24-25. What seems to be average for everyone here? Thanks for your help and look foprward to participating in the forum!!

How much fuel you use depends upon how you drive, how you maintain your truck,ETC. Mine is a 2002 4 door and gets 16 city and 19-20 highway is I am lucky. I like to run the A/C and I have a heavy foot most of the time. Sportages are trucks they are geared for off road and run high highway RPM's even if in overdrive and torque converter lock up. I would not class a sportage as a economy car.

I've got a 2001 4dr with 5 speed, no a/c. Still with stock tires but with 1.375" bodylift, K&N drop in filter & custom 2.25" exhaust. Driving in the city I'm averaging 26 mpg(imperial gallon). If my math is correct that converts to 22 mpg in US gallons. Is this good....I don't know, but it sure beats the 12 mpg I was lucky to get with my Jeep .

I agree, 22 is fine with me! I have also just sold a Jeep to buy the Kia for a toy. I just can't imagine these things not getting in the 20 - 25 mpg range since they are so small, light, and have little motors. Thanks!!

I have a 2001 two-door, 5-speed, with 215/75 tires. In mixed driving most city I get about 21 mpg.

Yeah, I'm getting mid 20's with a lead foot. All I have is a cone air filter and stock exhaust - Soon to be upgraded as soon as we get my parents Suby Outback's CEL to quit complaining about a misfire on cyls 3 and 4.
It's weird having 4th gear again.
Got torque? '02 Ford F-350 STD Cab V10 6sp 4x4 12MPG in town and 15-17 on the highway.

When mine was stock I was getting low to mid 20s city and mid to upper 20s highway. With my lift and 31" tires I get about 22 to 24 highway after I calculate for tire size. 90% of my driving is highway so I don't have a good indicator of city milage. If you are going to use your Kia for hunting I have a 2 1/2" spacer lift and Dave scott has a 4" spring lift. With mine you can run 30" tires and with Dave's 31s or 32s with a body lift. Dennis

I have only driven the Kia in town the past few days and have 115 miles on this tank so haven't got to check it yet. I will be taking it on a trip this weekend for about 350 miles. Dennis, I may be interested in the spacer after I see how the mileage thing pans out. I know I don't want to lift too much but 2 1/2 inches with 30" tires may be what I'm after. I will be driving it alot so i don't want to kill my fuel mileage but if I can still get in the 20's I'll be happy. One of the main reasons I sold the Jeep was that it sucked the fuel. Also didn't have much room.

this is really weird, but on the last couple of tanks i got 28 mpg.
Yall might remember a year ago i did a test where i didnt rev the engine about 2k rpm when shifting and never went faster than 55. The best i got was 26 mpg. These last tanks have been mixed town/highway driving not trying to be conservative- 59 mph on the 55's, 64 mph on the 60's. I aint complainin! just cant figure it out! last winter i was averaging more like 18 mpg.

I'm running 31" tires that are almost bald with the 2.5" suspension lift and 1 3/8" body lift. Without recalculating for increased tire size I get about 14-15 in town and 21-22 on the highway.
