Need a Spot
So, I've got a '91 V6 4x4 with CA Emissions, but I don't live in California. Is there any performance robbing extra emissions junk that I can remove or re-route easily/safely without screwing up the way it runs?

Don't mess with it. It will screw everything up if you start removing things.

Nothing to gain. Leave it alone and enjoy cleaner air.

Nothing to remove, the egr valve is basically the only mechanical smog device left on it, and it does nothing to reduce power. You can increase the performance a little by cutting some joles into the intake box to increase more air flow, but that is about it for any cheap gains.

Your best way to increase performance(other than tearing into the engine), is to install a good hi-flow cat and a turbo style muffler, though better performance will be achieved if you install headers as well. Next you would want to install a hi-flow intake system, something like the K&N kit or one of the other aftermarket kits, I would also modify the kit to be a cold air intake system. A Jacobs ignition upgrade and a larger throttlebody would also be a good idea. Other than that you would have to consider increasing enlarging the cylinders and reworking the heads. With the exception of the new cat and muffler these modificatuons aren't cheap, basically between $3-700, with the heads and engine being more.

I put a Jacobs ignition on my old 3.0 and noticed very little gain (partial throttle, cruising) and absolutely no mileage increase. Very little bang for the buck IMHO.

I notice the difference more when the Jacob's ignition has been disconnected for one reason or another. With my mod's there is a definate difference in the throttle response as well as the mpg's, about 2 miles less per gallon w/o it as well as higher smog numbers.

You are right about the Jacob's being little bang for the buck by itself, but then again any mod by itself to the 3.0 produces very little gain.
