Need a Spot
First of all, I would like to acknowledge the fact that i recieved accurate and correct information about a problem i had before with my jeep from this sight. This info saved me some serious cash, all i needed before was a brake switch; so this is why i am back here again. i pulled code p1762, okay governor pressure input is greater or less than a calibration limit for three consecutive park or neutral occurences. My 02 jgc 4.0 auto is in limp mode. Can anyone explain this to me? Some people had suggested replacing the gov. pressure sensor, transducer, or it might be the tcm, the pressure solenoid, the tps, or the overdrive sensor. Is this trial and error? Need help!

The governer in your auto trans controls upshifts. Think of it like this Dan: Your tranny contains upshift valves and it pumps pressurises AT fluid through them to control the shift points. On one side of the upshift valve you have pressurized fluid from the governer. The governer is mounted on the side of the tranny and measures transmission RPM. The higher the trans RPM, the higher the pressure sent to the one side of the upshift valve.
On the other side of the upshift valve there is throttle pressure. This is accomplished via a throttle valve that is connected to the gas pedal usually through the kickdown cable. The the farther you push the pedal down, the more throttle pressure is applied to the other side of the upshift valve.
There is a constant war going on between these to pressures on the upshift valve. If gov. pressure is higher (overcomming throttle pressure), the valve moves and the tranny upshifts, if throttle pressure is greater it holds the upshift valve in place preventing an upshift.

In short form: It could be as simple as the kick-down cable is adjusted too short or too long.. An adjustment may be all that is called for. Most commonly the cable has become unattached and is NOT working at all.
