I have a 1986 Toyota with a 22r. After rebuilding the carb a while back, it tends to have a high idle. The obvious solution is to turn down the idle screw, however, the plug is still covering the idle screw since I saw no reason to mess with it. It should still be at the factory setting as far as I know.

It still starts and runs great. I am getting about the same mileage as before I did the rebuild. If the vehicle is warm, then it will occasionaly backfire when I shut it off, however I blame the high idle for that.

I checked the linkage and it does not seem to be binding.

I guess my question is what should I try before I take out the plug and mess with the factory set idle?
