You should not be worrying about fixing it, they should. Tell them you want a new pan installed at the dealership in your area.

I agree 100%

Two problems,

One, no receipt

Two, I'm to the point where no one is going to ever work on one of my vehicles again

I'm going to see if I can get a next bigger size plug and tap it in there.

What's the torque on the drain plug supposed to be , about 10 - 15 lb.?

I wouldn't be supprised if I learned they used an impact on it.

Might be able to find an oversize drain plug, if not, a 1/2x20 tap will usually fit in a 12mm hole to rethread it for the larger size plug. Not sure on the torque, I usually just use a combination wrench and snug it up tight by hand.

I understand about not having any body work on your truck.I hate to pay good money just to have a " profesional" screw up my stuff.Im sure there are good service places out there but I dont know of them.I dont think I am that much of a perfectionist but I always find a bol,t stripped/crossthreaded nut, loose or some thing.Make those goobers at least buy your tap and plug.Do you have the little sticker in the window reminding you to return to thier shop for next service? that might prove you were there and they have record of what they did, cancled check debit card record any thing. How do these places stay in business?.There is a reason those guys are working at the jiffy lube. They were not qualified to flip burgers or wash dishes. I had one of those type guys explain to me how uniroyal tires are much better than the BFGs I wanted to price, since thats what he had in stock.Man I could rant on this all day

stop at your local parts house and ask for a generic plug. They are a rubber plug with a allen head screw in the center that, when tightened, expands the rubber into the hole much like a drywall anchor does. Cheap and reusable.

Im a young mechanic, I stipped my oil pan about a week or so ago, I welded my oil pan plug hole closed then drilled and tap'd a new whole where i welded the hole shut, If you have no welding experience just tap it a tad bigger smile

How many times did you have to resharpen your drill after drilling through a weld? Would of been pretty tough on the tap as well.

Had similar problem except previous owner damaged the threads and used the generic rubber plug which you press in with a special tool. Any ways what I did was pre cut a piece of 1/4" plate and tapped a 1/4" national pipe thread hole for my future drain hole. I then welded this piece over the old stripped hole and then went back through with the tap to clean up the threads. If wanted you could make the hole bigger and use 3/8 pipe thread. I find 1/4 is on the small side and you end up drinking too many beer watching the oil drain out. Other than the welding part supplies including tap is under 10 bucks. You could also try tapping the old hole to a pipe thread without doing the welding.

If you wanna work for that new oil pan...
Stop in one day (or at another location) see if they cant print you out a new receipt.... Also how did you pay credit card / check - theres proof....

Start at the local store insist on a new pan (dealer installed) RAISE <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />
talking to the 15 yr olds (no offense to any on here) probably wont get you far... I had an issue with 1 store - I had to call another store to get corporate HQ... the orig store didnt want to give any info..

OH heck I'll tell the story - My brother stopped at JLube for a oil change & a tire rotation, he was on a weekend leave and had to back at the base the next morning, well the genius who rotated the tires didnt put the lugs back on all the way... I had to run down a jack and complete it... the car was 50' if that from the store - I walked back and nicely said hey my bro's car is sitting down the road (you could see the car from the shop) and the wheels fell off... did they come to help, nope they said it wasnt them that HE must of went home and loosened them..... Guy was like I used XXXX model impact and blah blah, to which my reply was... 'yeah but you have to know how to use it..' so long story short - called HQ they sent him some coupons....... Which he will NEVER go there again anyway.......

Man I wish they would go outta business... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />
