Hello all,
Been a while since I posted here last.
Anywho.. I am about to spray my truck in the next few weeks and I have two dents I want to fill. One in the hood and one in the tailgate. Problem is I've never used any type of body filler before.
Keep in mind I am doing this on the cheap.<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

So my questions are:
What kind of filler should I use for large dents about the total area of 6" square? Fiberglass? What about brands?
They are not very deep just kind of a large area. The metal is clean and there was filler there in the past which completely detached from the metal in one sheet.

Any other tips you might have to offer will help I'm sure.

Body Damage is Cool
filler is just a "smoother" and should not be used to fill more the 1/8" thickness ..

If it's more .. you need to "bang" out the metal , and flatten with files and sanders .. then a skiff of bondo to smooth ..

keep this site in mind for the future . http://www.toyotafiberglass.com

Need a Spot
Hey, I'm new to the site, but not new to body work. I have been working in a shop, or and my own since the 10th grade work program in high school (graduated in 87).One thing you have to watch out with a dent on the hood is that it will run on you. With the metal of the hood being so thin the heat from sanding will make it run and get bigger. Also after straighting the metal the filler needs to be able to stick to it. Normal progression of sandpaper grit is sanding the metal, maybe an 1/2 -1 inch out side the dent with 36 grit, then 80 grit out about another inch. Then spread the filler, sanding the filler down with 80 grit, after you have it the way you like it, a couple coats of primer. When it is dry enough to sand without gumming up, sand it with 180 grit to take out the 80 grit scratches, prime again. Then you should be ready to sand with 320 grit to take out the 180 grit scratches and get ready paint. Sorry if I am rambling.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
If you search "bondo" here you will find everything you need to know.
There is a lot of information, just surf around a while and you'll find what you need to know.
