I dont think the hood vents would be the solution you are looking for. You've got some other real issues here to check off the list first, then if you want a "little" more cooling solutions, go for the hood vents. And I dont think your 33's are putting any kind of strain on anything. With those 4.90s, you shouldnt be having any issues with being under-geared.

You want to check anything and everything that has to do with cooling. Also check with your tranny, any "check engine" lights come on yet? If you think your tranny is acting up, either its time to take it apart and change things out before your burns up and sticks, then its time for a rebuild of some sort. When in doubt, just start from scratch, drain your coolant, put new thermosate in, check water pump, change rad cap, change tranny fluid (and tranny itself) and etc... Good luck,
