I have an 85 pickup and will be installing an aussie locker this weekend. I have looked in my maintenece book for torque specs on the diff with no luck, the book doesn't cover this. Does anyone know what the specs are for the ring gear bolts, bearing cap bolts, and the bolts for the third member. I sure would appreciate any help on this as I am sure that someone has done this before.

Did you have to remove the ring when you did your install. How difficult was it to install? Also what do you think about your Aussie Locker?

Torque specs should be in the specifications section; we also have an FSM sticky'd here, but DO follow the instructions for downloading; it's quite large.

I just installed a Lock Right...to me the hardiest part was taking everything apart to install it. Them springs on your Aussie and I am sure they are kind of like my Lock right will fly if they get away from you while installing them. Be very careful. Lining up the ring gear back onto the Carrie is another one. O and them dang con washers on the locking hub was a mother. Spray PB blaster on a few days before you start and hit it again the day before and the day of...I had a hard time taking them off. I left the bolts a few thread on and smacked the hub(not the locking hub)..rotate hub smack and again and again and again untl they popped loose. Be careful not to hit your lug nut studs...ore even leave your lug nuts on to protect your threads. if you dont leave the bolts(locking hubs) on they may fly off. Don't forget the put your hubs on FREE before you remove them.
Mike
You will also need a snap ring plier...for the hubs.

yes you will remove the ring.READ READ READcant say it enough.follow instructions exactly as far as marking every thing and putting it back as close to where it was as you can.The aussie web site uses zuks insrtructions.look over his site as well .refresh the bearing pre load, tighten uop the pinion, replace the seal.you only need to go in once.
As far as being pleased with my Aussie ? Yes very much.I was in a wreck a while back and my rear end took such a lick the housing was bent, aussie seems ok .read every thing you can that relates to it before you do it and print it out to keep with you while doing it.It took me longer to file down the diff to get the locker in than anything else.It was my first time for that sort of work ,if I can do it you can too.I did this in my driveway with hand tools.go for it but study up.the directions that came with it were not enough for me. good luck
