My Pontiac Aztec is giving an O2 sensor code. The auto shop teacher at the college where I work says he only uses O2 sensors from the dealership and can get one for $100.

I can get a Bosch OE style from a parts store for $80, or a universal one for $60.

My question is, anybody know who makes the OEM sensor? Is there really an advantage to getting it from the dealership, or is a Bosch from the local parts house just as good?

I can see the advantage of the OE style with the plug vs. the universal and having to cut wires, but is the extra cash to the dealer worth it?

Thanks!

Chris

Hi Chris,

I was a GM driveability tech up until about 2 months ago.

AC Delco makes the GM HO2 sensor. There is no substitute. Bosch replacements are hit and miss. I wouldn't put them in my car.

Also, AC Delco plugs and wires are the only way to go. Anything else is gambling.
