Hey, people! I'm new to the forum so take it easy on me if this question has been asked already. And no, I was to damn lazy to look through the old post for the answer. Thought I might get it faster and make a few friends, or enemies, if I just went ahead and asked.
What have been the best spark plugs and wires for all of you who have a 1997 SR5 T100 with the 3.4L engine? I just purchased this truck a few weeks ago, and it seems to be burning gas like a mutha. Thought I might tune it up. It has 134,000 miles, and the previous owner looked as though he didn't know what the hell a tune up was. So I probably should check the plugs and wires just in case my shyte goes kaput! Thanks!

You'll get a resounding "stick with the Toyota OEM" from here. I have no experience with the wires/coil packs, but the plugs you get from your Toyota dealer (NGK or Denso) are far superior to the crappy Bosch plugs that I had in there briefly.
With very few exceptions, when you're replacing parts or doing a tune-up Toyota parts are the only way to go.

I agree with using Toyota parts, especially the spark plug wires. NGK's and Denso's you can find at NAPA, or maybe one of those other parts places slightly cheaper than your local stealership. Most of the guys here deal with one of the following for Toyota parts or go their local dealer. You might want to check these out.

www.sparkplugs.com sells oem ngk/denso wires and plugs for out trucks.

The only problem with getting non-Toyota plug wires is they don't usually come with the little plastic clip that clips into the coil. If you screw up the original trying to take it off or if it is already broken, you end up with just a pushed in fit instead of a being clipped into the coil. I bought a set of NGK wires and NGK plugs through that site and was very happy. About $55 shipped and they shipped quick. I haven't had a chance to drive the truck yet but they ran nice.

welcome tp the fourm, I'm new here too. NGK or Denso is the way to go for sure. also you might want to replace the timming belt as well. I replaced my oem belt at 187,050 miles and it was 1 inch out of spec. I tell you what it runs like a champ now got plenty of power.

I will also very much agree to stick with oem parts. I bought my t100 about 6 weeks ago and also had some bad gas mileage. I have cleaned the maf with cnc maf cleaner ($4), changed the spark plugs (densos from dealership $2-3 each) as well as all the belts ($100), hi flow water pump ($100), pcv valve ($3 part), ECT sensor ($30 part & found out after removing it was fine) and oxygen sensors (both for $60). The 02 sensors I tried getting away with universals but they threw a code so had to order a denso or ntk and I went with the ntk 24554 because I found some really cheap and that got rid of the code. I have gained roughly 3mpg but have only ran one tank so far but am pleased if thats all I get since that will up it to 18mpg+.

Next up are the spark plug wires which I should have done instead of the ect ($@#%*! autozone) and those will definitely be oem and can be found for around $30-40.

Densos or ngk/ntk for plugs and those 2 brands will work for almost everything on these trucks and always worth the few extra bucks and in some cases they're cheaper. I know you only asked about the plugs I just thought I'd share my experience in gaining more mpg since my truck had the original plugs at 135,000 miles so routine maintenance also wasn't in my previous owners vocabulary and I have become pretty familiar with my engine in the last month.
