Hello all. I know that most of the troopers come with 4.56 diff gears. Which troopers come with 4.77 diff gears and how do I tell if mine has them? I just bought an 88 trooper LS for parts and am considering trading all my good stuff from my 91 trooper onto it because it has a decent body. The 88 is a 5 spd 4 cylinder with AC and cruise control and captains chairs if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance for any input. Ryan Davidson

The difference is whether or not it had the 31" tires stock. The option code for that escapes me right now, but it would be very rare on an 88.

Thanks for the reply Jim and Hello. I guess I could just look at the door jam for the stock tire size. Ryan

all '89 RS (2-dr SWB) have them from the factory... regardless of option code.

IIRC, there were no 4.77's in 1988. 89-90 (maybe 91, but I don't think so) were the only years, for both the regular trooper and the stubbie ones.
Hi Ryan!!

Thanks for all the input and you have answered my questions. I think that I will be swapping my 4.77 differentials from my gray trooper to this new one. Hate to put the gray trooper down because it feels like it has a soul. Hello to you Michael! Ryan
