Ok so you DID HAVE the steering wheel unlocked...right?
The spacers shouldn't change the towability of the jeep. I have seen too much caster cause the front wheels of the towed jeep to slide and not want to follow the tow vehicle.
I like my vehicles to have a minimum of caster anyway so it has never been a problem for me.
Also if you have a front locker I doubt it would turn at all when towed.
