got in my junk the otherday (85 4runner, 22re, 212K, noticeable timing chain chatter) to go to work, and it started up ok but with louder noise from the chain.

immediately i noticed my exhaust was louder, after inspection i noticed nothing awry with the system itself.

by the time i was done checking out the underside, i noticed my idle was falling.

it falls from 800rpm to 500, and will hold there, obviously loss of low end power, recovering at about 1100 rpm. low oil pressure, low revs etc.

nothing electircal is amiss in the engine bay, AFM is fine, plugs, coil, igniter.

i've known im due for a timing chain replacement, but before i call up *eb with a shopping list, and check out rogers site, i just wanna make sure i've diagnosed it correctly.

should i pull the pan and look for remnants of the guides? any other way to see for sure, or is it a sure bet the timing chain is the culprit?
