I was doing some searching on my starting problem and came across this statement by DougB:
THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULDN'T GET CLEANING SOLVENTS IN THE IDLE AIR PASSSAGE - IT WILL EAT THE RUBBER SEAL FOR THE COOLANT VALVE AND COOLANT WILL LEAK AND BE INGESTED INTO YOUR ENGINE!
I have the 90 Montero that won't start. I have noticed that my coolant level is slowly dropping and all hoses have been replaced. It all started coming together only TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. I admit it..... I DID spray cleaning solvents into the idle air passage!!! A lot of it too. Now I have noticed a kinda steamy smoke that comes out of the tailpipe. It is like it is freezing cold outside only that I am in Louisianan at 92 degrees. I know, I know what a dumb a$$!!!. I just didnÆt know!! NOW I do.
Could it be possible that the coolant level is dropping because it is going thru my coolant valve and is boiling off into a steam when I get to operating temp, going thru my engine and causing it die when it gets warmed up because WATER DOESN'T BURN (Wow, what a run on sentence)
If this is truly the case, how do I fix the little rubber seal for the coolant valve? And why doest my wife care like she used to? Why didn't my father hug me as a child......Sorry, Sorry, wrong message board. Where were we?
Oh yeah, hot, wet, steamy throttle bodies!!! Yeah baby
I read that Sparkum tried to bypass the coolant to the throttle body. I would love some more info on how to bypass the coolant having to run thru the throttle body and what the results were.
