What is the biggest size tire I can fit on the Sportage without a lift? 2000 4wd 4dr I have 215/75 all terrain tires on it now but I want to put on some rough tires and need to go a little bigger. I am getting 22 - 24 mpg now and don't want to kill the mileage so I prefer not to lift the rig unless I have too.

235x75x15 on the stock wheels is as big as I would go without a lift. You might be able to squeeze in 30s if you stay with the stock wheels. You might loose a little MPGs with the 235s but not much. Dennis

if you go much bigger, even without a lift you will lose some mpg. if you stay narrower though it shouldn't be as bad.
i know with my 31x10.5's it suffers a lot!

The largest tire size that I did without a lift was 30x9.5
on 15x8 rims with +offset---and I had no problems (major). <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

30x9.5 fits on stock rims too, with only very minor rubbing on the sway bar at full-lock turns.

Thanks for the info. That is what I was hoping to hear. I have found a good deal on a set of 235's. I pull a small boat and a 6x10 trailer with a 4 wheeler on it. I pull both trailers alot since this in my hunting rig. Any experience and how much the taller tire will affect my pulling power and also the affect on mpg?? I have always drove full size trucks with big V8's so I don't know what to expect from putting a larger tize on the small 4 cylinder. I appreciate all your help!!!!

I have never towed with mine but I didn't notice much of a drop in gas milage or power with the 30x950s but I did add a K&N open filter and a 2 1/4" exhahst with a MagnaFlow. When I went to the 31s I felt a drop in both milage and power but not enough to make me go smaller tires again. A good air filter and open up your exhaust and It should pull ok with the 235s. Dennis
