Getting the Wheeling Fever
1989 2-Door V6 & 1989 4-Door V6 ... Which shocks are best? ... I have finally beat the last bit of life from my factory suspension. What do I want to replace them with? What's the toughest shock to be found for a stock V6 1989 Raider or Montero? My 2-Door frequently finds itself a long way off the ground and those hard landings beg for shocks that will take that type of beating with copious regularity. I don't mind replacing shocks with regularity, but it seems sensible to be spending that same money on shocks that will provide the ultimate in quantifiable longevity under very high levels of abuse, stress, and more abuse. Any and all thoughts appreciated. I have found many brands that seemingly fit, but I have no clue as to which brand would likely be the toughest.

This may well be a redundant post, ... but I thought maybe somebody could help me fast track all the extensive reading to be found here in.

There R Skyjacker Shocks on E-Bay right now, apparently for a Raider or Montero with a 1"-2" lift. Wrong size for a stock truck, but is the brand worthy? I also see Trek Master Shocks on E-Bay? Again, comments appreciated.

I also just had the passenger mirror fly off, ... hit a hard mogul, bounced hard, mirror flew away. Always thought I'd loose it on a tree. Anyways, sources for mirrors are appreciated.

Thanks,

RedAir

Group consensus here centers around KYB shocks.

As for your mirrors, what type do you have? Black plastic with two mounting screws or the larger metal with 4 bolts?

I have Black Plastic Mirrors, or rather I have one black plastic mirror. It seems that the plastic mounts directly to the vehicle. I did not think these mirrors were factory. My last Raider had the plastic mirrors on the tops of short metal brackets. These R different. I figured the old owner had simply found something that fit.

I will send pictures to clarify if needed.

All help sincerely appreciated.

Regards,

I have KYB gas-a-just on my 89 lwb and really like them. They give a firm ride on road and eliminate alot of body roll. Off road they hold up great.

My Bilstein shocks are wearing out fast. I feel I will be upgrading to KYB sooner or later. Bilstein are suppose to be the better shock, but I am getting lots of body roll lately. And I don't seem to be able to justify 80-140 per Bilstien shock <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

I just bought some Rancho 5000 for the rear from NAPA.
I'm putting OME 910 and Gen 2 trailing arms on now.
Should I take them back , like are they a bad bet???
I'm in a small town I don't think antbody carries YBK around here.

Where are you buying yours at? They're $59.99/pc at Autozone.

Some ebayer has the full set of 4 Bilsteins for something around $240.

Shop around, there's always a dela to be had!

I already bought my rears, just need to buy the fronts and get it in the garage for the install. I'll report more later, but I bought my Bilsteins on the recommendaiton of others here and their overall reputation for quality.
