has anyone ever put the ignition system on an older vehicle, and are there any gains from it? does anyone know why the system had the skinny little wires on it.

yep.I have a 94 with the 3.0 and I stuck the distributor from a 91 in there Because my MSD ignition cooked the pinner stock ones. The only real gain is improving to the bigger wires. I use MSD super conductor wires and they plug right in snugly. You have to replace the whole distributor though, the caps have different bolt patterns. And you have cut off the wire harness off both ends and splice the wires together. Let me know if you do it and I'll tell you wich wires splice with what, so you don't have to play guess that wire.

Well I don't have any aftermarket ignition system on there now just stock, i was more interested in why they went that way for only a year. I have the set up off that truck and the wiring for it is there all the same colors and the connectors would just have to be re pinned. I have ever fooled around with the 3.0 motors I try and stay away from them, haha, can you tell me if you notice anything when you change yours out, fuel milage, power? thanks <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> for offering your help also.
