Yeah, I went through the same deal with my O2 sensor. I had a crack just below the flange so it was drawing in fresh air and throwing the O2 sensor reading off, in turn throwing off the fuel mixture. Even a small crack will do it with a narrowband sensor (pre-'92, I believe).
