Getting the Wheeling Fever
Along with the change in fluid I plan on installing a tranny cooler. I need to know which is the return line to the tranny? I could do the pull the line off and turn the jeep over and see if it blows fluid all over but thought I would avoid that method. My plan is to put it in seris with the line that goes through the radiator. So is it the line that is next to the pit cock (passenger side) or driver side of the radiator. This is a 99 Wrangler w/ an auto. tranny.

Thanks in advance <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />,

If you are talking bout the wife's Wrangler...I'd be forgetting bout adding a cooler.. Unless she is pulling a mobile home everywhere she goes it WILL NOT be needed.
Your Wrangler should perform as engineered without adding anything to the intended radiator cooling/heating abilities.

Yea I am, sorry did add that in there. It just seems to be really hot on the floor when you drive a long distance. Figured I would add it in to reduce that heat a little. I know it won't go away but figured it would be a little more comfortable on the right foot while going down the road. I added one to the Rodeo and it's helped with reducing the heat in the console.

Body Damage is Cool
If that's all you are worried about then just go buy some dynamat(sound dampening material used in cars with loud stereo systems), or similar material, and put some under your carpet over the tranny hump and in front of the seats. I know dynamat is expensive, and I'm not sure how well it insulates, but I'm sure there are similar materials that are cheaper, and insulate well.

Keeping the tranny cooler will add life to your tranny.

I forget which line is which at the moment, but I am using a B&M Supercooler flat plate cooler on my '99 TJ.

I "think", but not 100% sure, that the return line to the trans is the one with a clamp on the rubber hose, whereas the hot or pressure line is the one fitting a wrench type fitting.

I have temp sensors on both lines and one gauge with a switch to change between hot and cool lines.

Using the radiator trans cooler and the aux cooler, I am seeing 40-60 degree drops in fluid temps.

I feel it's worth a $100 or so and a couple hours of your time to maybe extend the tranny life a few more tens of thousands of miles.

Yea that's true, I wasn't thinking of it that way. But cooler as got to be better and every little bit can help. I didn't get the high dollar one just the standard 20 or so dollar tranny cooler. I have a similar one on my Rodeo and it seems to help. When you're running over size tires and I haven't regeared anything this will help keep things cooler.
If I remember right i think both lines on the radiator have clamps on them. Were you talking about the other side of the lines running back to the tranny?

I was thinking (I haven't looked lately) that one of the tranny lines had a band type clamp that you can loosen with pliers and the other one had to have a wrench used on it.

Slip-on joint vs. threaded.

I "think" the slip-on joint is the return back to trans line.
