Can anyone tell me the gear ratio on an 87 gen 1, 5-spd, 2.6L???

Also, where can I find a locker to fit this rear end? Checked with Lock-right - nothing....calmini - nothing
ANY SUGGESTIONS???

Gear ratio should be 4.625-to-1 - to verify, check engine compartment and/or rear diff. In engine bay, all the way to the back at top of firewall, either to one side or in the middle, look for a data plate. You can also look on top of radiator rail. On rear, on back of diff near top...may be covered in muck. Will likely say 4625 on it (in very rare cases may say 488 but don't plan on it).

Look here for locker and other info:

I have a 4.625 rear axle with LSD from an 87 Raider, no shipping if you pick up in NorCal. $150 for the whole axle, drum to drum.

Does anybody know the type of axle....9" 12-bolt....what brand??? The type of axle may help me in my search for the locker? Not looking to pay more than a couple hundred dollars for it.....ARB = $810

If you're not looking to pay alot, then go for the LSD. He is offering a Great price to you.
Only other option I know of in your price range is to weld the spiders.

ARB is the ONLY option for a locker, the rear ends are made by Mitsu. So if you dont want to spend the money LSD or Lincon (welded) are the only options.

Almost forgot, if you can score an early Montero sport rear Diff from the Junkyard the diff will bolt in (whole assembly drum to drum), and a rare few were equipped with an airlocker. Be warned, these are rare and hard to come by but the diff is a pretty much a direct swap. Make sure its from the rear leaf spring Montero sport as They switched to coils aroud 200 or so and those will not bolt in. Landraider did this so search his posts for more info.

I have one on the shelf. 97-99 MS XLS had the leaf spring air locker sometimes. Rear track will be wider by 1-2". RDB. Need DB brake prop valve, or adjustable racer Prop. valve. Otherwise a bolt in in 4.636 ratio, which is close 'nuff to 4.625

Cool info. I now have something to shop for, for my Raider. I've cooked the second set of brake shoes in a year running up and down the mountain with 33's. Thanks!

BTW, Les still needs to get the other rear axle from me. I wasn't offering the one I have belonging to him.
