I'm thinking of buying a used Taco reg cab 4WD: was this truck supplied w/ the 2.7L 4cyl engine(my fervent wish) or w/ the 2.4L? I know the 2.4L was std w/the 2WD trucks, but what about the 4WD's? I'm winding up my time w/ a '91 4x4 w/22RE 2.4L engine and I'd sure like it if the Taco Reg Cabs had the more powerful engine. Anyone know?, or know where to look for authoritative data? Thanks in advance for any answers! -Keith B.-

The 4WD Reg Cab came with the 2.7. I had a 95 4WD and now I have a 04 4WD Reg Cab and they both have the 2.7.

Yep. 4WD comes with the 2.7 or the 3.4

Yep - the 2.4L 2RZ engine was only used on 2WD (non-PreRunner) Tacomas.
Of _course_ I know the difference... I don't want you to kiss a hole in the ground.
