Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey all, I just rebuilt my 1987 Toyota 22R engine and got it in the truck. My question is, how many times should I have to crank the engine without the plugs in it to get oil pressure?

Should be no more than a few seconds. I've heard some mechs say to pack the oil pump with grease or vaseline to aid in priming, but I never had that trouble.

Thats what I thought. I've run it through several starter cycled and still am not getting any oil pressure. I've pulled the oil filter off and there is no oil in it. This is a brand new oil pump and completely rebuilt engine. Do you think I just need to keep trying? Or do I have to pull this thing out again?

>>>*Typically it can take up to a couple of minutes to fill the oil gallies on a dry engine with cold oil.

I would remove the oil pump, pack it with grease or vaseline, install the plugs and start her up.

It will build pressure in seconds if it is going to. Trying to build pressure off the starter could take quite some time....*EBjr

Thanks all, I got her running. I ended up pulling the oil pump back off and packed it with grease. About 2 min after that it showed pressure. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
