for the longest time i wanted to build a bada$$ race starion or 3000gt with ZERO painted down the side with big mitsu diamonds in the backround. i thought it would be funny for the mustangs i would beat. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" /> Perhaps you'd get a better reception if it were emblazoned with this: ![[Linked Image]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4f/Naval_Ensign_of_Japan.svg/150px-Naval_Ensign_of_Japan.svg.png)

Mitsubishi, unlike Toyota,Nissan, etc is a symbol of that era.Flying bomber escort at Pearl Harbor didn't help 'em 30-40 years later with those who simply won't let it rest. All I know is they truly sent a wonderful product to us in the Montys and such. That's the way they should be judged,in a positive light.

The Zero could out-turn any US fighter throughout the war. In the early years of the war, it was up against the P40 (no superchargers = no climb rate), the P39 (samo samo), and the F4 Wildcat (couldn't turn with the zero, but could outrun it). Those planes saved Guadalcanal (and my uncle with the Raiders on Bloody Ridge). The Hellcat and the P38 are what ate up the rest of the zeros. And the coup de grace was from the P61 Black Widow night fighter, build along the same lines as the P38, but much bigger and heavier, and MORE maneuverable than the Zero with those great big Fowler flaps sliding out in the turns.
The Japanese were dead after Pearl Harbor. It just took time for them to notice...

The Japanese were dead after Pearl Harbor. I'd say the turning point was the Battle of Midway. If we had lost those carriers, it could have been us that were dead. Frank

I'd say the turning point was the Battle of Midway. Agreed, there were allot of hard and nasty battles but this one was a moral victory for us and a moral loss for them. We did have major losses but being able to repair our ships quickly and replace the aircraft was a strong suit for us as their resources were running thin, noticeably so after Midway. And yes, Yamamoto was a brilliant leader. He aperantly knew from Pearl Harbor that they were going to be the under dog and he fought a hard war.
