How long have you had your KingSprings? how many km? I know that they are a bit stiffer (higher spring rate) than stock. Sounds like the Sportage is tough on springs. Does anyone know if Zook's are hard on springs too? Just wondering........... Everet

my king springs have sagged alot so mow im tossing up weather or not to get a new set of 2in springs with dennis' coil spacers or just go a 4in lift cant decide. I was wondering if you were referring to the back end????? The front almost never had any problems (irony, cause the weight is in the front). ....Unless you were hauling cement bags etc....

This happens a lot on custom coily set-ups (like with QA1 coils) and they don't use bumpstops or use the spring as limiting straps. No sure quicker way to kill a spring then use it as a bumpstop.

not necessarily....
i used my rear coils, fully compressed, with maybe an eighth inch between winds, to build my bumpstop length. the front doesn't have bumpstops at all, but the shock bottoms just before full compression of the coil, as it should, otherwise, the upper link mount will mash the oil pan or tranny lines and/or the axle tube will clunk the frame.
however, for some odd reason, my lower shock mounts keep breaking off the axle.... hmmm....

Dave,
I think your lower shock mount problem is the person who installed them needs to learn how to weld.
Remember our last trip to Moab and my rock sliders!!
Most people don't realize the Sportage rear bump stops rot off rather quickly and then they compress the heck out of their rear springs thus greatly shortening the life and reducing the lift.
The Eibach rear springs are progressively wound resulting in improved ride and greater control. This progressively wound coil lends itself to sagging because the smaller windings give out sooner.
The front springs are of heavier winding and donÆt have this big of a problem.

i want to put 31x10.50 tires on my sportage. can i use stock rims and get away with a 1.5" body lift. I always wondered why EveryOne did not go with a 3" Body lift? A lot cheaper than most suspension lifts.....and so we all could check it out! Will do this prolly around Christmas time! Can't wait to check out the results (when it finally happens) After this job is done will try 33's!

Tell me you're not using your shocks as bumpstops? DoucheTech 8000 Pre-runner series shocks have bumpstops Built into them, but even DT says not to use the shocks alone as stops. Usually bottoming out of shocks blows them out. however, for some odd reason, my lower shock mounts keep breaking off the axle.... hmmm.... I've seen this happen to rigs using shocks too long without proper bumpstops. When fully compressed, force has to go somewhere. Seen one where the weld held, but tore the housing open. OUCH! Others I've seen are custom 3&4 link with QA1 coils or similar. Coils mounted ridgid at both ends, no bump stops or limiting straps, instead using the spring for that. The constant stretching and compression fatigues the spring and the sag, and rarely evenly. But at $40-50 a coil, some consider them a seasonal wear item. A tech at Betts Springs (big maker) told me that generally springs are designed to do only one thing, compress or stretch, but not both. He said keep that in mind when working out a coil suspension. That's why I have 4 Fox Air Shox now, in boxes, waiting for my Sammy's 07-08 winter build session. Of course, I have to finish the 06-07 winter build first. lol

i had the springs for maybe 2yrs max and have done about 30k of driving with not much load in at all compressed they are 18 and 19 cm. i was just looking at some other 4wd suspension setups and am now thinking 4in coil in the back and a 2 inch spacer upfront to level it out as the front springs seem ok. Do u think this would work ok? this way i will still have some front suspension travel.

guys, i accurately described my set-up for comedic purposes. i know why my shock mounts break off. i'm not gonna put a bumpstop up front because i still want to come up with a better design and better set of front coils, and at that point, i will adda bumpstop to the mix as well as turn my knuckles, all new link mounts, coil mounts, panhard mount, shock mounts, and hydro assist.
as for the rear, tiangulating the lowers, building a new crossmember for both upper and lowers, and new coil mounts. everything else works perfectly.

You know, you got me. I was wondering, like, he knows better!
Ever see the rock guys using the hydro bumpstops off the ricer rides? Kinda trick but pricey. Trail bling.
