Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a 1990 3.0 v6 with the original cruise control. It engages ok but tends to hunt the whole time I have it in cruise. I there an adjustment to correct this? Is it a failure of something?
Thanks Gordon

What do you mean by hunts? What speed are you cruising?

hunt? Cruise on my Raider will die when I hit the left signal and let it turn itself off. Montero will do the same sometimes. I figure I have a frayed wire somewhere. If it is screwy with the gear changing, you might have to adjust the cables going in and leaving the cruise box.

I guess I need to clarify hunts.
It goes into cruise allright and stays in cruise ok but the speed tends to go up and down every couple seconds... it seems to have to much sensitivity. You can watch the gas pedal moving in and out. not all the way but about 1 to 2 inches.
hope this sheds some light on it.

well thats just to maintain the set speed. maybe you need to do a fluid change or flush your gear fluid. I know on a hill I can feel my cruise doing that slightly but its much more smooth in its transitions.

I know it's doing the speed thing... I just remember it was a lot smoother. Any other suggestions???
Thanks

Do you have any flutter in your speedo needle? The cruise reads the vehicle speed from the reed switch driven off the speedo cable and housed in the back of the speedo case, and a fluttering signal there could make the cruise twitchy.

It's not moving much but I haven't really looked closely at it. I'll look more closely on Monday when I travel 220miles down to the fish plant. Thanks for the tip

I've got a 1st cousin who has a shrimp plant in Delcambre. I've got to get down that way sometime and see the place before the next hurricane...

I would think that any electric connection to the tranny is going to be vunerable to moisture and trail obstacles. As simple as it sounds, I'd suggest crawling under there to clean the connection with electric contact cleaner and check for shorts in the insulation. A little dielectric grease, some extra electrical tape for insurance and a double check of the fluid level in the tranny may fix the problem.
